Extra Credit Opportunities
Students can receive up to half of the points they missed on any quiz/test by doing the following things:
1. Keep the quiz or test that you want to correct for extra credit
2. On a separate sheet of paper, list the quiz/test name at the top of the paper
3. Put your name and date on the separate sheet of paper
4. Number and copy the questions that you missed
5. Work the problem out showing all of your work
6. Circle your answers
7. Staple the re-work to your quiz/test
8. Hand this in to me personally
Late Work
It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to absences from class. The calendar on my website can be checked to see what was missed. I strongly advise all students to see me the day they return to school and receive the assignment and guidelines personally. I can also help with any questions.

Course Description
This standards-based eighth grade course places strong emphasis on applications of the mathematical concepts and skills related to decimals, fractions, percentages, and integers to solving a variety of real-world problems. In addition, students will extend their understanding of the concepts proportion and measurement and apply this knowledge in problem-solving situations. Students will further develop their algebraic thinking by investigating the merits and limitations of graphical, symbolic, tabular, and verbal representations of relationships. Throughout the course there is an emphasis on the process standards of problem-solving, communication, reasoning, representations, and connections.
Learning Objectives
In Grade 8, instructional time should focus on three critical areas: (1) formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations; (2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; (3) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.
These learning objectives will be met through the following major units of study:
Review: Rational Numbers – Chapter 1
Unit 1: Graphs and Functions – Chapter 2
Unit 2: Exponents and Roots – Chapter 3
Unit 3: Ratio and Proportion, Similarity – Chapter 4
Unit 4: Geometric Relationships – Chapter 5
Unit 5: Measurement and Geometry – Chapter 6
Unit 6: Multi-Step Equations – Chapter 7
Unit 7: Graphing Lines – Chapter 8
Unit 8: Data Prediction and Linear Functions – Chapter 9
Benchmark Dates
October 23-24, January 14-15, March 25-26
Final Exam
All Math 8 classes will have a final exam.
